The Food and Drug Administration. Is there a more obvious example of a federal agency not doing its job? (and didn't I already blog about that this morning?)
While the FDA should be protecting us from unsafe drugs, it's been keeping lots of unsafe drugs ON the market - even after the FDA learns people are being hurt. Think Vioxx or Rezulin (and the list goes on)
If you ask prescription drug victims across Michigan, who have now joined with the state House and the Governor (but not the state Senate) they would tell you that this Michigan law needs to be repealed. These victims spoke out at news conferences across the state yesterday (click here and here and here to read some of the stories)
“They [the State Senate] have to put the people of this state ahead of pharmaceutical companies," said [Leslie] Richter of Lansing, whose husband, Richard, had two strokes and died in March 2003 after taking Vioxx, a drug that has since been pulled from the market.
WLNS Lansing Channel 6 News appears to have reported on the issue as well. However, no video was available online. Instead, you can watch this terrific video put together by Progress Michigan
