So you try and live a healthy lifestyle.
You don't smoke, you eat healthy foods, you (sometimes) exercise – and
then BAM! you find out that those recommended eight glasses of water a day
have trace amounts of pharmaceuticals in them. First you think, well maybe a little tiny bit of the active ingredients
found in anti-depressants, pain medications and high cholesterol drugs
isn't going to hurt me. But no,
not surprisingly fish and wildlife that have come in contact with this
medicated water have been showing growth and reproductive abnormalities.
Maybe this is more of an issue for environmental groups like the
National Resources Defense Council or EarthJustice, but a healthy
environment is important to us all - even consumer advocates. A few
months ago the Center for Justice & Democracy released a report
demonstrating the importance of the protections provided by our civil
justice system can have on our environment. Check out the report, How the Civil Justice System Protects Environmental Health
