NY Medical Lobby Defies Data Repeats Same Old Myths
In an amazing display of completely neglecting data and facts, the Medical Society of the State of New York (MSSNY), a medical lobby group, opted instead for repeating age-old myths. The Albany Times Union ran a story today entitled "Primary Care Doctors Find Better Job Market," that focuses on a new survey from the Center for Health Workforce Studies at the University of Albany (Check out the full pdf report here). The survey clearly shows that most doctors choose where to practice based on salary and proximity to family. Nevertheless, MSSNY continues to repeat anecdotes about docs fleeing New York because of malpractice insurance premiums. According to the Center's survey, less than two percent of respondents cited malpractice insurance as a primary reason for deciding where to practice. Did we also mention the fact that more doctors are practicing in New York then ever before (Just see here and here)? It is as if someone keeps telling MSSNY 2+2=4 over and over again and everyone knows 2+2=4, but MSSNY keeps saying 2+2=7.
