Thanks to our friends at Tort Deform for giving us the heads up on this one. They found a great clip on YouTube of New York State Senator Eric Schneiderman adding a lot of common sense to the medical malpractice debate in New York. In the clip, Senator Schneiderman delivers a passionate speech about a particularly bad piece of legislation (S7038) which essentially represents state subsidies for medical malpractice. One of his comments is filled with so much common sense it just had to be the quote of the day. Here it is:
"The problem with malpractice in this state primarily is 4 percent of the doctors are responsible for 50 percent of the malpractice payouts. We do not regulate bad doctors. And what is really offensive about this proposal is that it provides subsidies to doctors who are so bad they can't buy insurance in the open market."
