Earlier this spring the Center for Environmental Health issued a report after finding unacceptable levels of lead in synthetic surfaces like indoor/outdoor carpeting and artificial turf. The New Jersey Health Department found high levels of lead in well-worn nylon fields.
However, late last week, the Consumer Product Safety Commission
said that the lead in artificial turf isn't harmful to children
but companies that make the turf should adopt voluntary development
standards that does not include lead anyway.
However, as CJ&D just noted in the playground safety report released yesterday, voluntary safety stardards aren't enough to keep kids safe.
