What’s it going to take to finally remove the disastrous Nancy Nord as acting head of the Consumer Project Safety Commission, and replace her with a new Chair who is competent, fair and honest and actually cares about consumers - you know, the people the agency is charged with protecting? We hope the February 3 letter from Congress pushes the Obama Administration to act.
Nord, as the letter points out, is an atrocious public servant, having completely botched implementation of the Consumer Project Safety Improvement Act (CPSCI), misleading businesses and consumers alike and blaming everyone else for her own failings. This incident is just the latest in the utterly reckless reign of this agency under Bush. (See the Center for Justice & Democracy report, which summarizes some of this.)
