There isn’t a profession in the country that has received a more unfair “rap” than attorneys who represent patients injured by medical malpractice. In fact, the stories you don’t hear about are the majority of cases these attorneys turn down, in spite of the number of preventable medical injuries they see.
That’s why we are so impressed that medical malpractice attorney Pat Malone, has decided to write a book with the aim of telling consumers how to limit the chance they will end up as one of the hundreds of thousands of people injured each year due to preventable medical errors. His new book, “The Life You Save: Nine Steps to Finding the Best Medical Care-and Avoiding the Worst,” was featured on the Today Show yesterday. (Check out an excerpt here and see the video below.)
In addition to being a nine-step guide to avoid getting hurt by a health care scheme Malone's book describes (quoting a doctor) as “always being on the brink of chaos,” it also provides a scathing indictment of a system in desperate need of greater patient protections. Solving this problem – not limiting lawsuits - must be the focus of health care reform.
