There are two important hearings in the U.S. House of Representatives today. First, for the first time, a Chrysler crash victim, Jeremy Warriner, is being allowed to testify about the terrible injustice to Chrysler and GM auto defect victims, whose rights were taken away by the bankruptcy deal worked out with the Obama Administration's auto task force. A bill in Jeremy's name has been introduced to try to help fix this situation.
And on the arbitration front, hearings today will focus on "the misuse of arbitration to collect consumer debt." This comes on the heals of a major announcement last week that Minnesota Attorney General Lori Swanson "reached a sweeping legal settlement that requires a Minnesota company [National Arbitration Forum] to get out of the business of arbitrating credit card debts and other consumer collection disputes nationwide."
