No doubt, this unusual ability to entertain had something to do with the decision makers at Dylan Ratigan’s Morning Meeting to book the infamous “dinger” of the “death panel” alarm.
However, of particular interest to us in the Ratigan interview was what happened when McCaughey started arguing that there wasn’t enough so-called “tort reform” in the current health care legislation.
"Why would you start with tort reform when you have an anti-trust exemption for insurance companies?" Ratigan asked sensibly. “Let’s start with the biggest chunks of meat.”
That was all Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-NY) (who was also a guest on the program) needed before he too jumped on the fact wagon—noting, for example, “that the CBO determined that eliminating 30 percent of all tort claims would yield marginal savings of .04 percent, because most of the states already cap tort claims.”
Anyway, you get the idea. If you were given to puns, you might say just “desserts” were served and eaten—and we found it all incredibly delicious. Check out the video below starting at about 4:29.
